Dear friend,

Thank you for visiting my website, More Than Admin, and for taking an interest in hearing from me every now and again.  I do promise to keep my e-news to a minimum, as no one wants their inboxes inundated with news.  Of course, the ones you receive from More Than Admin are full of valuable information….Before I get onto that “valuable information” I just want to take a quick moment to introduce myself to you (in case you have not met me yet). 

After graduating from University of Toronto with a double major in Political Science & Crime and Deviance, I went on to explore various career paths.  I suppose I should have known back then when my education interests were so varied that my career interests would follow a similar path.  I worked administration for a financial firm, went back to school for Montessori Teaching Training and taught Montessori for a short time here and abroad in Norway.  Although I loved teaching children and am admiring about the Montessori philosophy, teaching was not to be my life-long career.  I found my way back into politics beyond the role of volunteer and into the role of paid staff.  It was this opportunity where I took my love for event planning, writing, politics and assisting others to a new level – it became a passion.  The only part missing was my life-long desire to work in the charitable sector and truly “give back”.  Through the journey of a difficult illness a “silver lining” sprung up offering me the exceptional experience of combining my love for event planning, writing and giving back when I accepted the position as National Walk a Block Event Coordinator with Lupus Canada.  As passionate as I am about finding a cure for lupus, I am equally passionate about running my own business. 

My own business offers me the opportunity and challenge of taking my expertise and passions to create a dynamic organization that I consider an extension of myself. 

Enough about me, on to a few, hopefully interesting notes about the Virtual Assistant business. 

What is a Virtual Assistant and why should you partner with one?

Traditionally a Virtual Assistant is a professional entrepreneur working for other entrepreneurs, or small to medium sized businesses, on a contractual basis performing a variety of outsourced administrative services from his / her own office.  A V A often specializes in a particular field(s) of administration, such as web design, marketing or like me, event planning and word processing, and more recently, social media marketing.  Communication between the VA and client typically occurs through email, phone, fax and /or courier. 

So now that you have a better idea of what a V A is and what they do, now you are wondering, what are the benefits of working with a VA instead of hiring a temp or in-house employee?  Of course, the list is lengthy as I cannot help but feel “how could it NOT BE beneficial to partner with a VA?”  In a nutshell here are the top three reasons for working with a Virtual Assistant:

·         Pay only for the time spent working on your project or task and forget about paying employee taxes, sick time, vacation pay etc., we pay that ourselves

·         Save on office space, after all a VA works out of her or his own office

·         Rest easy, your VA is a professional with many years work experience and the goal of partnering with you long term, unlike a temp who typically does not consider you a client but rather the next pay cheque
